She punted to that "therapist" with a quickness, didn't she? I thought the same thing: Alexander spent the evening crying about the lady that reminded him of home.

As a Black woman who has traveled the world, I can tell you that a familiar face in a sea of non-membership can sometimes be so great a relief as to bring tears. You don't even know such a thing matters until you're faced with it.

Alexander will never know that comfort in the presence of this person who adopted him - damned if I'll call her his mother. She's going to spend his life trying to scrub the black out of him. By the time she realizes it doesn't actually COME off, I fear the damage will be done.
