Sequoias - the largest trees on earth. Did you know that sequoias can't germinate without a fire? Utter, destructive fire.
The smaller and weaker surrounding trees fall to the fire. Not the sequoias - their ability to withstand the heat is complete.
The fire then cracks sequoia pods. It must be raging hot - nothing less will do. Then - and I love this part - it takes a bit for the pods to burst and the seeds to fall. By the time they touchdown, the ground has cooled and the fire has moved on.
Then, they root and grow, under the watchful eye of their mothers. The field has been cleared of the less robust. Only the warrior queen and her child survive and advance, now blessed with space, and the embraced by the breeze, quenched by the water, and air and kissed by the sun.
